A much better day. It was still raining but eased up a bit, and we were determined to do something. We went to the Jungceylon shopping centre in a taxi, and it was really nice. In the basement is a sort of bazaar selling silks, cushions, massages, food, etc. So after a walk around the whole centre we returned to the basement. Justin had a 1 hour foot massage, manicure and pedicure, and Alice had a half hour foot massage and manicure (had trainers on to guard against the killer mosquitos round here, so no point painting toe nails). Justin's two attendants (Yol and Pom) were very interested in how hairy his legs were and kept pulling it and giggling, and then asked him what colour paint he'd like on his nails :-) I'm happy to say he went without paint. Anyway, the entire thing cost us 1050 baht - about £15, not bad for an hour and a half of pampering. Thai foot massage is good but a little strange - there's a bit where they use a wooden thing like a big fat chopstick and press points of your foot with it. The man next to me fell asleep so he must have enjoyed his!
Then we had a meal which was only 50 baht (under £1) each in the canteen - baragin. Then did a bit of shopping and Alice managed to get herself two Thai cushions for about £10 so was happy about that. We went back to the hotel to dump all our stuff and change. Counted the steps to our room - 130.
This evening we went to see the Simon Cabaret, which is a song and dance show put on by the ladyboys. The show was really good with some very funny bits, although most of it was dance based. The sets were amazing. After the show you could meet your favourite ladyboy and have your photo taken with them (although you had to tip them) so Frigid decided to do that - you can see the photo.
We then got a tuk tuk back into town and were ripped off - they were all charging 200 baht as it was raining, and we'd been told it should only be 100. But it really was raining a lot, so we jumped in and then got out in Patong and had a nice pizza down one of the side streets. Saw the mad Italian owner with his glass of limoncello in his hand, staggering around. Then it was back to the hotel for a cocktail and sleep. We're hoping for a nicer day tomorrow. Lukily the little man had left our nightly packet of biscuits, so we have those to scoff tomorrow. |
